Working Principle

A buffer tank does not process the product. It controls the flow between process steps.

A typical buffering cycle works as follows:

  1. Liquid fertilizer is pumped into the tank from the reactor, mixing tank, or storage tank at the upstream process rate.
  2. The level system tracks the working volume and controls the upstream feed pump.
  3. The filling machine or downstream pump draws product from the bottom outlet at its own speed.
  4. The tank maintains a minimum working level so the suction line does not draw air.
  5. For suspension products, a recirculation loop or slow-speed agitator keeps solids distributed.
  6. When the batch is complete, the tank is drained and cleaned through the bottom outlet or CIP system.

Because the tank decouples the upstream batch cycle from the downstream packaging cycle, a short upstream delay does not stop the filling line, and a filling line pause does not force the reactor to stop.
