A liquid dosing system delivers a controlled volume of liquid into a fertilizer process at the right time and at the right rate. In a fertilizer plant, that liquid may be a micronutrient solution, a binder, a coating oil, a nitrogen inhibitor, an acid, a fragrance, or a microbial inoculant.

Dosing accuracy directly affects product quality. If the liquid is under-dosed, the product misses its specification. If it is over-dosed, the batch is wasted and the operating cost rises. LANE Machinery supplies liquid dosing systems with metering pumps, flow control, PLC automation, and stainless steel construction for fertilizer production lines.

Product Overview

The LANE liquid dosing system is a packaged dosing unit designed for continuous or batch fertilizer production. It can be supplied as a single-channel unit or as a multi-channel skid with storage tanks, pumps, valves, and control.

The standard system includes:

  • Stainless steel or PE storage and day tanks.
  • Metering pump per dosing channel.
  • Flow meter and control valve.
  • Injection point with check valve.
  • PLC control cabinet with recipe management.
  • Optional mixing tank and agitator.
  • Optional skid frame for pre-assembled delivery.

The system can dose into a granulator, coating machine, reactor, dissolving tank, or filling line, depending on the application.

  • Pre-assembled skid reduces on-site installation time.
  • Tanks, pumps, valves, and control on one frame.
  • Space-saving layout for existing plants.
  • Simpler commissioning and maintenance access.

Safe operation

  • Check valves prevent backflow into the dosing line.
  • Low-level alarms on storage tanks.
  • Pressure relief and leak protection.
  • Optional ATEX components for flammable liquids.

Working Principle

The working principle of a liquid dosing system is controlled delivery of a measured liquid volume into a process stream.

  1. The liquid is stored in a day tank or storage tank.
  2. The PLC selects the recipe and the target dose.
  3. The metering pump draws liquid from the tank.
  4. The flow meter measures the delivered volume.
  5. The control valve adjusts flow to match the setpoint.
  6. The liquid is injected into the process at the injection point.
  7. The PLC records the batch and signals completion.

The system can dose proportionally to a main line flow or in a fixed batch sequence, depending on the process requirement.

Application in a Fertilizer Production Line

The liquid dosing system can be installed at several points in a fertilizer plant.

For granulation and coating:

Granulator or coating machine <- Liquid dosing system <- Additive tank

For liquid fertilizer production:

Dissolving tank or reactor <- Liquid dosing system <- Micronutrient or acid tank

In these configurations:

  • The system doses micronutrients, binders, and inhibitors into the granulator.
  • It applies coating oil and dust-control liquids in the coating machine.
  • It adds acid or alkali for pH control in reactors.
  • It doses microbial inoculant or fragrance into liquid fertilizer before filling.
  • It controls water addition during mixing to keep moisture in specification.

LANE supplies the dosing system as a single unit or as part of a complete liquid fertilizer production line with dissolving, reaction, storage, filling, and CIP systems.

Application Scope

  • Micronutrient solution dosing in NPK and water-soluble fertilizer production.
  • Binder and coating liquid dosing in granulation lines.
  • Acid and alkali dosing for pH control.
  • Inhibitor and additive dosing for specialty fertilizers.
  • Microbial inoculant dosing in liquid organic fertilizer.
  • Fragrance, color, and preservative dosing in liquid products.
  • Water and moisture control in mixing and granulation.
  • Chemical dosing for fertilizer plant wastewater treatment.

Quality, Standards, and Certification

LANE manufactures liquid dosing systems under an ISO 9001 quality management system and can supply CE-certified equipment with stainless steel material certificates.

For pressure-rated applications, the tank and piping design can follow customer-specified codes including ASME Section VIII, PED, or GB/T 150. Hydrostatic testing and third-party inspection by SGS or BV are available.

For liquid fertilizer products exported to the European Union, the final product must meet Regulation (EU) 2019/1009. The dosing system supports accurate formulation and contaminant control, and we recommend independent certification of the final product by the relevant authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a liquid dosing system do in a fertilizer plant?

A liquid dosing system delivers a controlled volume of liquid into a fertilizer process, such as micronutrients, binders, coating oil, acid, or inoculant. Accurate dosing keeps the product within specification and reduces waste.

How accurate is the dosing system?

Standard dosing accuracy is around plus or minus 1 percent. With flow meter feedback and PLC control, the system can hold plus or minus 0.5 percent depending on the pump and fluid.

Can the system dose multiple liquids at the same time?

Yes. Multi-channel skids can dose up to 8 different liquids independently, with each channel controlled by its own pump and flow meter.

What materials are used for corrosive liquids?

SS316L is recommended for acid and chloride applications, and PVDF or PTFE components are available for highly corrosive fluids. Material selection is confirmed against the liquid before delivery.

Can the dosing system be connected to the plant PLC?

Yes. The control cabinet supports recipe management, batch totalization, deviation alarms, and communication with the plant control system.

Can it handle high-viscosity additives?

Yes, with the correct pump and tank design. High-viscosity liquids can be handled with a larger pump, heated tank, and circulation system.

What is the warranty?

LANE provides a five-year warranty, spare parts support, and overseas installation and commissioning services.
