Product Overview

The Double Shaft Mixer (also known as Twin Shaft Mixer) is a heavy-duty industrial mixing machine engineered for high-capacity fertilizer production lines. Its dual-shaft design — featuring two counter-rotating shafts with interlocking paddles — delivers unparalleled mixing intensity and uniformity, making it the preferred choice for large-scale organic and compound fertilizer plants.

Unlike single-shaft mixers, the double shaft configuration creates a fluidized mixing zone where materials are simultaneously lifted, sheared, and circulated in three dimensions. This makes it especially effective for wet, sticky, or high-viscosity materials that single-shaft mixers struggle with.

Technical Specifications

Double Shaft Mixer

💡 Each shaft is independently driven — if one motor trips, the machine stops safely without damaging the gearbox.

Key Features

⚡ Twin-Shaft Synergy

  • Two counter-rotating shafts with specially angled paddles create intense shear and convective mixing
  • Achieves ≥97% uniformity in 2-4 minutes — 40% faster than single-shaft mixers
  • Fluidized mixing zone eliminates dead spots completely

🛡️ Built for Heavy Loads

  • Reinforced frame with double I-beam base structure
  • Hardened alloy steel paddles with replaceable wear-resistant tips
  • Oversized gearboxes designed for 24/7 continuous operation
  • Each shaft independently driven by a dedicated motor-gearbox pair

💧 Handles Wet & Sticky Materials

  • Self-cleaning paddle design prevents material buildup
  • Ideal for high-moisture organic materials (up to 35% moisture)
  • Optional internal spray system for adding liquid binders or microbial solutions during mixing

🔧 Advanced Control Options

  • PLC-based control panel with timer, overload protection, and emergency stop
  • Variable frequency drive (VFD) for adjustable mixing speed
  • Integrated load cell for batch weighing (optional)

📦 High Throughput

  • 5-20 T/H capacity range covers mid to large-scale plants
  • Short batch cycle time maximizes daily output
  • Continuous feeding and discharging minimizes downtime between batches

Working Principle

Double Shaft Mixer

  1. Charging: Batched raw materials enter from the top inlet
  2. Dual-Shaft Action: The two shafts rotate in opposite directions. The left shaft pushes material clockwise; the right shaft pushes counter-clockwise. Materials collide in the center zone, creating intense shear mixing
  3. Overlapping Paddle Zone: Paddles from both shafts overlap in the central region, generating a fluidized bed effect where particles are suspended and thoroughly inter-mixed
  4. Discharge: The wide bottom door (pneumatic or hydraulic) opens fully, discharging the entire batch in seconds with zero residue

Double Shaft vs. Single Shaft Mixer

Feature Double Shaft Mixer Single Shaft Horizontal Mixer

Max Moisture 35% 30%
Dead Zone Risk None (overlapping paddles) Minimal
Capacity Range 5-20 T/H 1-15 T/H
Energy per Ton Lower (faster cycle) Moderate
Investment Cost Higher Lower
Best For Large plants, wet/sticky materials Small-medium plants, dry materials

Applications

Industry Application
Large Organic Fertilizer Plants High-volume mixing of composted manure with additives (>10 T/H lines)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How is the double shaft mixer different from a standard horizontal mixer?

A: The double shaft mixer has two counter-rotating shafts that create an overlapping mixing zone, achieving better uniformity (≥97% vs ≥95%), faster cycle times (2-4 min vs 3-6 min), and better handling of wet/sticky materials.

Q2: What is the maximum moisture content it can handle?

A: Up to 35% moisture content. For materials above 35%, we recommend pre-drying or selecting a mixer with optional scraper attachments.

Q3: Can the paddle angle be adjusted?

A: Yes. The paddle angle can be adjusted to optimize for different material characteristics — steeper angles for faster mixing, shallower angles for gentler handling of fragile materials.

Q4: What maintenance is required?

A: Routine greasing of bearings (weekly), paddle wear inspection (monthly), and gearbox oil change (every 6 months). Wear-resistant paddle tips are designed for easy replacement.

Q5: Do you offer PLC automation for batching control?

A: Yes. We can integrate PLC control with load cells for automatic weighing and batching, as well as VFD for adjustable mixing speed.
